BIOGRAPHY
Emmy-nominated Andy Lauer is nearing completion of The Tehuacan Project, a documentary
about deaf children defying poverty and circumstance in Mexico. The film is
executive produced by Brad Pitt, narrated by Adrien Brody (Academy Award Best
Actor) and music by Jackson Brown. He made his feature length directorial debut
with the film ‘Intermedio’ starring Edward Furlong (T-2, American
History X) and Amber Benson (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Prior to that he received
critical acclaim for his multi-award winning short film “Little Cuba,”
a powerful and compelling story about two American students sailing the Caribbean
who run into two Cuban refugees adrift at sea. “Little Cuba” premiered
at the Santa Fe Film Festival.
Not limiting himself to roles behind the camera, Lauer stars along side C. Thomas Howell in ‘Invasion’, a science fiction thriller due in theaters this summer from Asylum Studios. Lauer plays Lt. Kerry Williams, a defiant soldier who joins forces with a civilian scientist (Howell) to rid planet Earth of invading Space Aliens. He also stars in the original Hallmark movie Just Desserts, playing a smooth French pastry chef. To prepare for the part, Lauer studied with a real French chef to prefect his cooking technique, as well as his accent. The comedic love triangle also stars Costas Mandylor and Lauren Holly.
Andy, popular for his four-year run as “Charlie” on the hit NBC comedy series “Caroline in the City,” is a native of Southern California and the youngest of four children. A performer from an early age, Lauer worked extensively as an actor from ages 9 to 11 before giving it up for a “normal” childhood. A gifted athlete, Andy excelled in football and was the captain of his high school gymnastics team.
Lauer attended the University of New Hampshire, where he studied journalism and theater arts. After college, he backpacked through Europe and then settled in New York to begin his career. While there, he worked as a busboy at the Friar’s Club where he closely observed such comedy legends as Red Skelton, Milton Berle, Henny Youngman and Lucille Ball.
Andy’s feature-film credits include the Oliver Stone films The Doors and Born on the Fourth of July, as well as Eric Blakeney’s Gun Shy with Sandra Bullock and Liam Neeson, War of the Worlds, For the Boys, Disney’s I’ll Be Home for Christmas, Necessary Roughness and the futuristic thriller Screamers.
He enjoys life as the father of three children and spends summers in Third World countries with his wife and family on volunteer assignment with the International Red Cross.
